Overview[]
Scotty is one of Gideon Gemstone's colleagues, having worked with Gideon as a stunt man in California. Scotty, Gideon, and Scotty's girlfriend, Lucy plot blackmail scheme in order to abscond with a large amount of money in Thailand.
Season 1[]
Scotty was the main antagonist in Season 1. Gideon largely came up with the blackmail scheme, as Gideon secretly recorded his father, Jesse Gemstone consuming alcohol and cocaine. Four of Jesse's friends who formed a tight knit circle were also abusing cocaine and patronizing prostitutes, although Jesse did not indulge in the sin of adultery. Seeing Jesse as a hypocrite for judging Gideon for pursuing a stunt career in Hollywood, Gideon would enlist Scotty as his primary partner in securing money from the Gemstones. Gideon and Scotty would have red demon masks on when recording videos sent to Jesse. Scotty and Gideon would try and lure Jesse into an exchange, where Gideon and Jesse would give the recording of Jesse and his friends' debauchery in exchange for cash. However, during the exchange, Jesse would actually run Scotty and Lucy over with his car, and Gideon would remain only scratched up without major injuries, which Lucy and Scotty both suffered. Scotty would also be injured further when he was run off the road by Jesse, with Jesse playing it off to Amber Gemstone as a "street racing" prank.
Gideon would visit Scotty in the hospital, where the two agreed to "dump" Lucy's body into a dirt pit. However, it was discovered that Lucy was not, in fact, dead. Lucy would confront Scotty and Gideon, accusing them of leaving her for dead before leaving both to fend for themselves. Eventually, Scotty and Gideon would get in a fight, in spite of Scotty's visible injuries. From then, Scotty and Gideon would hatch a heist plan, using Gideon wanting to work for Gemstone Ministries as a cover for the heist. Their cover story thereafter would be Scotty being Gideon's friend that's interested in converting to Christianity, having moved to South Carolina from "heathen" California. Scotty and Gideon would be tutored by Martin Imari in Gemstone church operations, specifically coordinating the donation collections on Sunday service. From this knowledge, Gideon and Scotty planned to rob the church on Easter Sunday, one of their biggest days for donation hauls during the liturgical year. When Easter Sunday approaches, Gideon gets cold feet and refuses to execute the heist, leaving Scotty in the lurch.
Not one to let Gideon get the best of him, Scotty eventually forces Gideon, Jesse, and Eli at gunpoint to go back to the church and open the donation vault. He runs off with the loot, thinking he is going to Thailand by himself with over $2 million in stolen cash. However, he is killed in a car accident involving Baby Billy Freeman, who at the time was being fellated by his wife Tiffany, thus causing Baby Billy to run his intersection and t-bone Scotty.
Baby Billy would investigate the scene, noticing the bags of Gemstone cash and Scotty being clearly dead. Baby Billy and Tiffany take the money themselves, and run off to Freeman's Gap, South Carolina, where the rest of the Gemstones would confront Baby Billy and take back the stolen cash.
Meanwhile, Gideon is confronted by Eli and Amber for his role in the botched heist. Gideon elects to only tell half of the truth, omitting the part about his blackmail video of Jesse being the primary motivation for the series of events that unfolded. Gideon is banished from the family, and elects to work for free at the Gemstone mission in Haiti to pay off his debt to the church. Eventually, Jesse presents the blackmail video to Amber and the rest of the men involved (and their wives). Jesse comes clean to Amber about why Gideon did what he did with Scotty, and Jesse is banished from his own house as well. Gideon is later seen being joined by Jesse in Haiti at the end of the season.
Season 2[]
Scotty's heist is not mentioned in the second season. It seems the aftereffects of the blackmail have lingered but been resolved. Jesse and Gideon have returned from Haiti, where Amber has accepted them both back in the house.
